Digital Toolkit Bespoke Services
What is a Bespoke Service?
A bespoke service is where the business area requirement is unique and/or complex, and likely to be reusable across NICS Departments. Digital Transformation Services will work with the business area to develop requirements. The business area will require an approved business case and funding before the project can proceed.
To date DTS have worked with numerous Public Sector organisations to deliver online applications ranging from Jobs Online, the Historical Institutional Abuse (HIA) Redress application to PSNI Firearms licensing forms, and the Shop Local Initiative.
Bespoke services are by their very nature much more involved and we would encourage you to browse the Digital Toolkit Pre-Engagement information for an understanding of roles and responsibilities.
Why does a shared platform deliver bespoke services
While a bespoke service is specific to a particular business need, the service will be built from or will build a set of reusable components or micro-services that can be reused in other parts of the platform. The advantages to this are
- Building a bespoke service on the platform is often considerably more cost effective than a Greenfield project as it is reusing an architecture, services and components that have already be built and tested in other services
- Building a bespoke service on the platform often reduces risk and exposure as the shared services and components are functionaly and penetration tested multiple times as each service that uses them goes live.
- Building a bespoke service on the platform often takes considerably less time as the building blocks of the new service have already been created
- The platform already has an established processes for engagement, delivery and support by which the teams support and guide business areas through the delivery lifecycle.
