Welcome to the GSNI Mines service
The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) is responsible for managing (active & abandoned) mines. This service has been created to both:
- Enable the GSNI Admins to manage & maintain a secure Azure Cloud based mines database
- Provide a Public accessible online Portal which is read only in nature and has limited access to sensitive data.
About Mines
The following information is to provide context for new users, or user unfamiliar with Mines. There are 6 main entities within the Mines database, features within each of these will evolve with every release, details of new features will be explained within the associated release notes as they become available in PPD:
Entity Type | Description |
---|---|
Mines | A pit or excavation in the earth from which mineral substances are taken. |
Accessions | These are Mine entries/entrances into mine workings of which there are two main types, shafts and adits. |
Inspections | A Mine inspection is a careful assessment or review of a mine for various purposes related to safety, health, and environment. A mine inspection is usually conducted by a qualified expert who has the authority to check the condition and compliance of the mine with relevant legislation and standards.These determine risks and any needed Remediations or future actions |
Incidents | A mine incident is an event that causes damage or harm to the environment, people, or property as a result of mining activities. Some examples of derelict mine incidents are cave-ins, landslides, fires, explosions, floods, and toxic spills. |
Remediations | A derelict mine remediation is the process of making a site safe for human habitation or use after it has been affected by mining activities. This typically involves removing hazardous materials, stabilising structures, and capping mine shafts. |
Commodities | A mine commodity is a term used to describe any valuable material that can be extracted from the waste or tailings of abandoned mines. |
Plans | A mine plan is a visual representation of the mine and its Accessions, these can be found as documents within this system or by links to 3rd Party sources. |
Note
Both the Mine Plans and Mine Maps all rely upon Third Party services for functionality.
Admin
Admin users can be allocated some or all of the following user roles:
- Service Admin
- Service User
- Config Admin
- Buk Upload Admin
Admin Roles
These roles enable Admins to perform the following Core Functions:
- Navigate the full site, all in scope Pages and associated Views,
- Add entities/Data within to Mines Database,
- Edit entities/Data within to Mines Database,
- Manage Admin User Roles,
- Manage Static Data lists (Config Admin).
Public/Citizens
The Public pages are freely accessible but they have limitations.
Citizens have access is limited to the following views:
- Mines List View,
- Detailed Mine Plan/s View,
- Accession List View,
- Accession Detailed View,
- Inspections List,
- Incidents List,
- Commodities List.
Citizens do not have access to any Admin Functionality such as:
- Add,
- Edit,
- Restrict.
visibility of information through the Citizen Portal can be reduced by Service Administrators via the application of restriction flags against:
- Any Entities,
- Any Documents.
